INFORMATION ABOUT THE FILM AND
FILMMAKERS:
We are filmmakers originally from
central Texas
and have recently begun our search for a first-time non-professional
actor for an upcoming feature film set during the Civil War. We’re
looking for a very special 11-15 year-old African-American boy for
the lead. He will be taught the basics of acting and will
co-star alongside professional actors.
Our last film,
August Evening, was shot in Texas and highlighted performances by
mostly first-time actors who went on to receive great acclaim. The
film was distributed in theaters nationwide, and it was one of the
best-reviewed films of the year. August Evening won the Independent Spirit Award (similar to
Oscars for independent films), the $50,000 Target Filmmaker Award,
and numerous other festival prizes.
If selected, your
student could have incredible experiences and opportunities. We
found the lead actor for August Evening by accident, bumping
into him on the street in San Antonio. Although he had no
experience prior to our film, he went on to receive several acting
awards and was nominated for Best Actor alongside Oscar nominees at
the Independent Spirit Awards (the winner of that award won the
Oscar the next day!). He’s walked many red carpets with
celebrities, been the subject of multiple TV news programs, been
flown around the world for festivals, and has been offered many
other acting roles.
